Proton Holdings Bhd hopes for talks with Indian automakers on the collaboration of products and market to conclude by next year, its group managing director Datuk Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said on Friday.
This was in line with Proton's aim of achieving a win-win situation with Indian automakers to enable the Malaysian-made car to penetrate the sub-continental market, Syed Zainal Abidin said.
He said this in response to a news report earlier today that the national carmaker was in talks with India's Mahendra for a potential partnership.
"We're going there to sell our cars, but there obviously must be some form of collaboration with the parties there," Syed Zainal Abidin said.
He, however, declined to name the automakers that Proton was in talks with in India.
He was speaking to reporters after presenting a RM50,000 contribution in cash and kind to Mercy Malaysia in support of its operation in Padang, Sumatra.
On the upcoming Budget 2010, Syed Zainal Abidin said he hoped the government would step up the spending capacity of consumers and the lending capacity by financial institutions.
"I'm sure the budget would be forward-looking," he said.
